How do I do it?
I’m a Calorie Counter. My daily intake of calories is between 1,500 to 1,800 per day -no more than 2,000! Exercise isn’t my thing plus I use the same excuse as most people -I don’t have time. So I simply watch what I eat and keep track of it. I know exactly what I’m putting into my body and how many calories my meals consist of.
These are the steps I took…
Step 1: Cut the Sugar.
Go buy the biggest bag of Artificial Sweetener you can find. Put it into a Tupperware and start using it in place of sugar.
Sugar 1tsp. = 15-calories
Artificial Sweetener = 0-calories
Step 2: The Soda Switch.
If you drink soda -Stop or switch to Diet. My husband did this and lost 25lbs by simply switching to Diet Coke -he didn’t exercise or change anything else in his routine, just cut out those soda calories.
Coke (12 oz can) = 140 calories
Sprite (12oz can) = 140 calories
Pepsi (12oz can) = 150 calories
Dr. Pepper (12oz can) = 150 calories
Mountain Dew (12oz can) = 170 calories
*These are the most popular sodas and as you can see, 1-can is averaging about 150 calories, then multiply that by however many sodas you drink a day. Those are calories wasted on drinks -switch to Diet.
Step 3: Try more ‘home-cooked’ style meals and less McWhatevers. I have two young kids and fast food is so easy, but so bad for you- the grease, the carbs, the fries, etc. Even if you are cooking a frozen pizza at home, it’s still way healthier than ordering in and cheaper too!
Tombstone Pizza (12″ 4-Meat Hand-Tossed Style) = 1,200 calories for the entire pizza
Pizza Hut (12″ Triple Meat Hand-Tossed Style) = 2,080 calories for the entire pizza
*These totals don’t include sides and drinks, these are only calories from the pizza!
Step 4: Fresh Fruits and Veggies are Free!
Yes, I realize that they tychnically have calories but in my diet plan I do not count them because they are full of vitamins and nutrients and simply make your body feel better.
I have a lot of Low / Zero Calorie Drink Recipes, with more to come:
Slushies and Smoothies are a perfect way to start the day, blend one up before you head out and drink it on your way to work in place of a Biscuit Sandwich, Bagel, or Croissant- which are also loaded with calories. They also make a great mid-day snack and are an excellent way to take advantage of getting a fruit into your day instead of grabbing a bag of chips or candy bar.
Sun Chips Harvest Cheddar = 210 calories
Snickers Bar = 250 calories
Less junk more fruits and veggies, grab an apple/banana or carrot sticks/celery for a mid-day or after dinner snack to munch on, they are such a healthier option and aren’t a deep fried something or smothered in chocolate.
Step 5: Cheating is ok, Lying is not!
If you stick to your plan and don’t allow yourself some treats every now and then, you will porbably fall off the healthy wagon. I love junk food and chocolate and chips, but in moderation. I realize that those types of foods are super high in calories. So if I treat myself to something junky, then I’m having a light dinner. Or, if I know I’m going out that night, I try to take an easy during the day. Don’t lie to yourself, you know exactly what you have eaten and how much, so calculator your calorie totals correctly. Just being aware and conscious of your eating habits is a really good way start a healthier life style :)
I hope this helps, I will continue to share my recipes with you all, SC!
